    • Sunday, March 29, 2026
    • 9:30 AM
    • Redwood Regional Park, Oakland
    Register

Enact some self-care and meet EB CAMFT members by joining us for meditation in Redwood Regional Park.

Craig Toonder is coordinating this event. Please email him at ctoondermft@gmail.com with any questions about this event.

    Logistics:

    • The meet up time will be 9:30am in the parking lot.
    • At 9:45am we will take a short 0.2 mile (4 min) hike from the parking lot to a grove of redwood trees next to Oakland Pal Camp.
    • Once we settle in, there will be a short introduction and then a 30-minute sitting meditation.
    • After the meditation we will have an optional “tea time” to socialize and get to know one another.
    • After tea time, if people want to take a short hike, that will be an option for that as well.

    What to bring:

    • Clothes - Bring layers with you because the Redwoods often have microclimates.
    • If there is fog the trees will drip water. So please bring a raincoat, as well.
    • Bring something to sit on - blanket, tarp, zafu, kneeling bench, camping chair, etc.
    • If you want to stay for tea, the tea party is a “tea-pot-pot-luck-party”. Please bring your own mug, if you can, and tea to share, if you have a thermos. If you are a coffee drinker, feel free to bring that instead. If you only have a travel mug, you are welcome to bring tea for one.
    • Craig has two thermoses and will be bringing two types of tea. He also has 6 camping mugs. If you have extra travel or camping mugs, please bring them if you are comfortable sharing.

    IMPORTANT WARNING

We have been having issues with Maps sending people to the wrong location. Prior to the event, please ensure that Maps is sending you to the parking lot 170 feet from the Chabot Space Center, and that the parking lot is between Oakland Pal Camp and Chabot. Both of these locations are on Google Maps.

Craig’s cell phone does not get service in the parking lot, so you will not the able to call him the day of the event.

    Parking Fee: Free
Restrooms: There is a restroom at Redwood Bowl Picnic Spot 0.2 mile (4 min) away from where we are meditating.

    Presentation Details

This presentation walks through the approved updates to Section 6 of the CAMFT Code of Ethics, which addresses Telehealth, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). It explains what the changes mean in practice and how they guide therapists in responsibly using digital tools and AI across clinical work, supervision, documentation, practice management, education, and public-facing activities. The presentation also highlights how the revisions ensure that technological innovation does not diminish therapist accountability, reinforce the importance of professional judgment, and establish clear ethical guardrails for competence, informed consent, confidentiality, disclosures, and legal compliance. Collectively, these updates provide a forward-looking yet grounded ethical framework that supports responsible adoption of emerging technologies while safeguarding client welfare and the integrity of the profession.

    Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Explain the purpose and scope of the approved revisions to Section 6 of the CAMFT Code of Ethics related to Telehealth, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence.
    • Identify key ethical responsibilities for marriage and family therapists when using technology and AI, including competence, confidentiality, informed consent, disclosures, and accountability.
    • Understand the ethical risks associated with technology and AI use in therapy, including confidentiality limitations, bias, and overreliance, and how the revised standards address those risks.
    • Recognize the legal and ethical compliance obligations associated with technology-assisted care, including ongoing duties to remain current with applicable laws and regulations.
    • Apply the approved ethical framework to real-world clinical, supervisory, and organizational contexts involving digital tools and AI.

    Trauma-Informed Training (400 hours)

    2 CE credits

Last day to register is 4/18.

    Workshop Description

This workshop offers practical, accessible tools to help regulate the nervous system through gentle movement, guided breathing, and approachable meditation practices. Participants learn techniques they can use daily - in their personal and professional lives - while deepening their understanding of how mind-body integration through yoga can shape neural pathways and support healthier, happier, and more present living.

    Presentation Goals

      1. Develop a foundational understanding of how key principles of neuroscience, mindfulness, and gentle movement can serve as practical tools to engage and regulate the nervous system, supporting the transition of thought and physiological patterns from sympathetic to parasympathetic states.

      2. Acquire knowledge of key yoga concepts, terminology, and the neurobiological benefits including drishti (focused gaze), pranayama (breath regulation), mindfulness, and movement, as well as an understanding of how to integrate these practices effectively into clinical sessions with clients.

        Measurable Objectives

        • Gain foundational knowledge of key neuroscience concepts, including
neurons, neural pathways, and neuroplasticity, to deepen their understanding of how mind–body practices influence the nervous system and support therapeutic regulation and change.
        • Develop the ability to effectively guide clients through three foundational breathing techniques.
        • Members will engage in a gentle, guided breathwork and yoga flow to explore the connection between neural patterns and physical movement.

Robyn Brinkerhoff is the founder of Empower Yoga & Mindfulness, with over two decades of yoga experience, 500 hours of teacher training, a Bachelor’s in Behavioral Psychology, and a Master’s in Educational Psychology. Presentation Description

Children are cute, but the issues you often face in their treatment can be complex. In this three-hour CE course, CAMFT attorney Kristin Roscoe will use the story of 13-year-old “Jack” to guide attendees through common legal and ethical issues a therapist might reasonably encounter when working with a child. From consent to treatment, mandated reporting, writing letters, to court involvement, attendees will learn how to spot areas of liability and best proceed to support the treatment of minors.

          Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

          1. Identify who may consent to the treatment of a minor and understand the particulars of a minor being able to consent to their own treatment.
          2. Distinguish when some common mandated reporting scenarios may be permissive rather than mandatory.
          3. Understand the legal and ethical risks associated with writing letters, particularly when there is court involvement.
          4. Understand the psychotherapist-patient privilege and how best to support minor patients during custody or guardianship legal proceedings.

          Presentation Description

This law and ethics-focused training is designed for mental health professionals who are paneled with insurance companies, considering becoming in-network, or seeing clients who wish to use out-of-network benefits. While insurance provides increased access to care, it also introduces complex legal and ethical obligations. During the training, Ms. Jasper will discuss how to fully inform patients about insurance issues at the outset of treatment, bill accurately and respond to records requests and audits in a manner that complies with state and federal confidentiality laws.

          Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

          1. Identify essential insurance-related disclosures that must be included in the informed consent process at the outset of treatment.
          2. Implement informed consent procedures that fully notify patients about insurance issues and financial responsibilities at the start of treatment.
          3. Execute accurate billing practices to ensure compliance with insurance company requirements and professional standards.
          4. Identify common reasons for insurance record requests and audits.
          5. Respond to records requests and insurance audits effectively while maintaining adherence to state and federal confidentiality laws, such as HIPAA.
          6. Develop a legally sound, step-by-step protocol for responding to insurance audit requests.
